The art of having hobbies

why hobbies changed my life
I don't think there's anything better than hobbies to add to your life.
One of the best decisions I’ve ever made was to try something new every single month — even things I never imagined myself doing.
Some things were good, others not so much, but they all taught me something.
Since I’m talking about hobbies today, I’ll focus on two that have recently made a big impact on me:
Running and Reading.
🏃♂️ Running: From Hate to Habit
Running was something I used to absolutely hate.
I mean, waking up at 6AM and running 5 to 10K?
No thanks. That sounded exhausting and not my thing at all.
But once I tried it, everything changed.
I discovered a huge community of runners that I had no idea existed.
They were disciplined, motivated, and inspiring.
Being around them made me want to try harder too. I set my alarm, went to sleep early, and gave running a real shot.
My first run? Terrible.
I barely made it through 3K at a very slow pace.
I hated it.
But then I saw other people's first runs, and I realized:
Everyone starts slow.
So I tried again.
And again.
And again.
Now?
3K is easy. I can run it nonstop.
The secret? You’ve got to be consistent.
Whether it’s:
- Long runs
- Progressive runs
- High intervals
Just run every day, and it slowly becomes second nature.

📚 Reading: A Gateway to Everything
Reading is totally different — and honestly, way easier to get into.
I started reading in 2019 during my first year of college.
Unlike running, reading doesn’t require a schedule, a group, or waking up early.
It’s just you, the book, and some quiet time.
But it’s also extremely fun and deeply thoughtful.
Reading gives you access to:
- New ideas
- New stories
- New perspectives
And best of all?
It’s a hobby that opens doors to endless conversations.
You can mix reading with:
- Movies 🎬
- History 🏛️
- Psychology 🧠
- Fiction 🧙♂️
- Philosophy 📖
That’s why I love it so much.
It helps me connect with people I want to talk to, in a genuine and interesting way.

🔁 In Summary
Trying new hobbies has made me:
- More disciplined
- More curious
- More connected
Whether it’s pushing myself to run a little farther or getting lost in a good book,
these hobbies have added a lot of joy and growth to my life.
If there’s one piece of advice I’d give:
Try something new this month.
You never know how much it might change you.
